Sackville Gardens is the first of our city centre parks to be improved
City Centre Lib Dem Councillors have long campaigned for an improvement to the 3 city centre gardens. Now a programme of improvement works is underway, which will see greater access, soil improvements and new planting.
As predicted in the least edition of City FOCUS work has already started on improving Sackville Park, renamed Sackville Gardens, one of the city's vital green lungs. Residents and city centre councillors have been calling for improvements to Sackville Gardens for many years and at last it has begun. A new disabled access point has been installed at the Sackville Street entrance and the coping stones and brick work have been clean up. New Signs, bins and seating have been introduced, and a long term soil improvement plan begun. Already the beginnings of attractive new planting schemes can be seen.
Councillor Marc Ramsbottom said, "We are delighted the council has now begun works to rejuvenate our neglected city parks. Now these improvement are underway we need to see progress in Parsonage Gardens and St John's Gardens as well".
