Residents Parking Scheme Gets Go Ahead

January 1, 2006 8:18 PM

A long awaited parking scheme for city centre residents has finally been approved by the Council's top level Executive.

City Centre Lib Dems will continue to campaign for a better residents parking schemeCity FOCUS launched a campaign nearly five years ago for a city centre residents parking, scheme, and local residents have been lobbying for a scheme for many years. Commenting on the scheme City FOCUS Editor Elaine Boyes said, "At long last city centre residents will get a parking scheme but it is well short of what we have been campaigning for. One of the key features of the scheme is that only residents with no parking in their apartment block may be eligible, and the residents permit will only guarantee parking in on-street bays between 8am and 9am in the morning and 5pm and 6pm in the evening on weekdays as well as Saturdays. Cllr Marc Ramsbottom says "The Council agreed to review the scheme after 12 months and we will continue to press for a better deal for city centre residents."
