Manchester Liberal Democrats Welcome Labour's U-Turn on Parking Charge Proposals

February 5, 2007 10:46 PM

Liberal Democrats Firmly Opposed Labour's Daft Parking Plans for ManchesterLabour's out-of-touch Transport Bosses have announced that they have withdrawn plans to extend Controlled Parking Zone hours of operation to include evenings and Sundays. City Centre Cllr Marc Ramsbottom today welcomed Labour's u-turn on the issue, which followed a massive campaign led by local media, residents, visitors, businesses and Liberal Democrats.

Councillor Marc Ramsbottom said:

"Only a Council supremely out of touch with local residents would even attempt to bring in these charges. This is a victory for the people who live, work and visit Manchester City Centre."

"Liberal Democrats were overwhelmed with support for our online petition, which we presented to the City Council. Charging for parking seven days a week, 8am to midnight, was not about congestion - it was about extracting the maximum money from people living, working and visiting the City Centre."
