Residents are concerned about apartments being let out as hotel rooms
There is growing anger amongst city centre residents about the widespread problem of short term letting of apartments out as hotel rooms. The practice has been brought to the attention of city centre councillors by residents concerned about the growing number of apartments advertised for rent on a nightly basis on many holiday websites.
Cllr Marc Ramsbottom has asked for feedback from city centre residents who have suffered from this problem in their apartment block.
One resident has said "We experienced a variety of problems with one night let visitors
having parties, causing disturbances, throwing litter (and in one
case a plant pot) off balconies".
Cllr Marc Ramsbottom has said, "I am very concerned about the growing problem of short term lets and the nuisance that this can cause to owner occupiers who have made the city centre their home. I am having discussions with the Planning Department about what powers the City Council may have to try and stop this practice from growing".
Many local residents in the city centre are concerned about the affect it may on the value of their properties if too many flats are been let out in this way.
Residents with specific experiences of this problem are invited to contact Marc by email on cllr.m.ramsbottom@manchester.gov.uk or by phone on (0161) 202 6603.
