Castlefield resident will get their own polling station from next May
City Centre residents will get more polling stations closer to where they live next time they go to vote. Town Hall bosses have agreed to new polling stations in the Castlefield and Oxford Road area after complaints from residents and local councillors. Previously most voters had to travel to vote at the Town Hall, or for residents in the Northern Quarter, at the Central Methodist Hall on Oldham Street. Decisions about the location of the new polling stations have yet to be made, but City Centre Lib Dem Councillor Marc Ramsbottom welcomed the move.
"After last years local elections we argued that the low turn in the city centre, may in part be due to their not being a polling station handy for lots of people, especially in the Castlefield area." he said. If you have any suggestions about suitable locations for new polling stations you can contact Marc directly on cllr.m.ramsbottom@manchester.gov.uk.
