Afflecks Palace: One of City's few independent retail attractions under threat
The future of one of Manchester's popular independent shopping attractions is under threat after talks between stallholders and the building's owners Bruntwood failed. Stallholders say they could be forced to close within days unless a solution can be found. City Centre Cllr Marc Ramsbottom has asked Cityco, the Council's City Centre Management Company, to intervene to save the quirky shopping centre. "Affleck's is part of the cities heritage," he said, "at a time when so much of High Street is being taken over by corporate chains, we should be doing all we can to save independent shops in the city centre." City Focus has launched a petition to support the work of independent traders and shoppers who have already collected over 7,000 signatures to date to save Afflecks' Palace. You can sign their petition online too at the website - www.petitionspot.com/signature/Afflecks.
