Piccadilly Gardens - Police Crack down on anti social behaviour
City Centre Police chiefs have confirmed they have made 21 arrests for anti social behaviour following a major operation last month in Piccadilly Gardens. The figures were revealed at a recent crime and disorder meeting, and come after complaints were received from residents, businesses and visitors about harassment, begging and nuisance. Several orders were also issued to force people to move out of the city centre.
City Centre Lib Dem Cllr Marc Ramsbottom welcomed the crack down.
"I have received several complaints, particularly from women, walking home on their own, that they had been targeted by a small minority who intimidated and on occasion threatened them. This sort of behaviour is unacceptable, and I am pleased that the police have cracked down on this type of behaviour, to make our public square safe for every one".
The area is to be subject to continued patrols by local bobbies.
