Combat Knives on Open Display in Manchester Shops

Liberal Democrat plans to ban the open display of combat knives have been blocked by Labour Councillors. City Centre Lib Dem Councillor Marc Ramsbottom was in favour of a by-law which would stop retailers from openly displaying lethal combat knives in shop windows. There are several stores in the city centre, many used by young people, which openly display harmful combat knives. Police backed the measures which would help reduce the problems of Knife crime. But Labour Councillors voted down the measure.

"Manchester has worst third worst incidences of knife crime in the country, and it is quite shocking to see deadly knives on open display in some shop windows in the city centre", said Cllr Ramsbottom.

"It is very disappointing that Labour failed to support our by-law plan, which would have made our streets safer, he added.
