There are currently only two NHS doctors surgeries serving over 20,000 city centre. Lib Dem City Centre Councillors have been lobbying for more GP's since 2004.
After years of campaigning, city centre residents are finally to get a new doctor's surgery to relieve a massive shortfall in patient places.
Manchester Health bosses have now revealed plans for a new city centre health facility to meet the health care needs of 20,000 city centre residents. About 12,000 people are registered with the current city centre GP's but many others are being turned away because the practice books are full.
City Centre Lib Dem Councillor Elaine Boyes, and a member of the Council's Health Scrutiny Committee welcomed the news.
"The two doctors surgeries in the city centre current do a fantastic job, but they cannot meet the growing needs of city centre residents," she said. "We will liaising liasing with the Primary Care Trust to make sure that it is located in an area convenient to most residents", she added.
There is also an NHS Walk In Centre on Piccadilly station approach.
